- To learn and identify the basic philosophical, psychological and pedagogical concepts of Special Education
- To learn and identify the most important concepts and the evolution of Special Education
- To learn and analyse different pedagogic and therapeutic models, both in a historical and contemporary perspective
- To learn and identify the history of pedagogical ideas in Portugal and their contribution to the development of Special Education

I – The Origins and Historical Evolution of Pedagogical Concepts in Portugal
II – Psychopedagogical methods and techniques – The contribution of different authors and theories
III – Psychopedagogy and Child Development – Contributions from different theoretical models and current perspectives in the rehabilitation process

Continuous assessment includes:
A group monograph (groups of 4/5 elements) about one of the contents of the course (40%).
Oral presentation of the monograph (30%).
Worksheets handed in during the classes.
All students have to submit to oral examination (30%).
Or
Final written and oral examinations.
